About PMcDonagh

Paula McDonagh’s lifelong appreciation of the arts, as well as the desire to create visual depictions from her point of view, led to a passion for photography.

Water, other natural elements, and flowers are frequent themes of her work and she often captures her subject from an unusual perspective. PMcDonagh enjoys depicting scenes that emphasize geometry and patterns. Her use of color, light and reflection creates images that evoke emotion, stimulate the imagination, or represent an abstraction of reality. Many of PMcDonagh’s pieces are often mistaken for paintings, rather than photographs, as her work can take on tones reminiscent of Impressionism or other period styles.

Originally from Westchester County, NY, Paula has been a resident of Connecticut for over 25 years. She lives in Fairfield County with her husband Gary, with whom she has one daughter, Alyssa.

Her work is influenced by a variety of artistic styles including French and American Impressionism and the Hudson River School of mid 19th century American art, as well as the artists Charles Prendergast, Georgia O’Keeffe  and Charles Wysocki.

PMcDonagh finds much of her artistic inspiration in rural, urban and coastal New England and the Southeast, as well as in Canada and Europe.
